Paver Patios Built for Sawgrass Yards
Helm Outdoor Solutions designs and installs paver patios throughout the Sawgrass area of Ponte Vedra Beach, behind the gates and along the narrow interior streets shaded by mature oak. Every patio is planned around furniture, circulation and access, then excavated, compacted in stages and graded so water moves away from the house.
A patio should connect the home to the yard, not sit between them
The best patio layouts begin with the doors from the house, the furniture the space needs to hold and the routes people will use to move between cooking, dining, seating and the yard.
Helm uses those conditions, along with shade, grade and drainage, to shape the footprint before selecting the material, pattern and border.
The patio is planned before the pattern is selected
Helm works through the decisions that determine comfort, movement and long-term performance.
Use & furniture
Sawgrass yards are mature and heavily planted, so the layout starts with the open ground that is genuinely usable rather than with the full width of the lot.
Elevation & water
Grade is measured on site. The finished surface is set to shed toward ground that can absorb it, away from the house and away from a neighbor sitting close by.
Material & pattern
Material and pattern are chosen under the canopy that is actually there, because heavy shade changes how a color reads against a sample board seen in the sun.
Base & installation
Base depth comes from what is under the yard, and gate access, street width and staging space are confirmed before a schedule is committed rather than on the first morning.

Paver Patios Across Sawgrass and Ponte Vedra Beach
Helm Outdoor Solutions works throughout the Sawgrass area of Ponte Vedra Beach, including the gated neighborhoods off A1A and the surrounding streets, as well as Marsh Landing, Nocatee and the wider northern St. Johns County area.
Building a paver patio in Sawgrass
In Sawgrass the difficult part of a patio job is usually not the patio. It is moving a crew, a machine and several tons of material to the back of the house without creating a problem for the street, and that is worth working out on paper before anyone is scheduled.
Access starts at the gate. Work behind a gated community runs on the terms the community sets, which can include authorizing contractors in advance, providing proof of insurance, and limits on the hours when deliveries and heavy equipment are allowed. Those requirements vary between associations and they get revised, so send us your current covenants and community rules before the quote so the proposal matches, including anything your board sets for contractor access and working hours. A delivery that cannot get through the gate on the morning it was booked costs a day.
Then there are the streets. Interior roads here are narrow and curving, shoulders are shallow and driveways are short. Base rock, bedding sand and pavers arrive by truck on pallets, so where that truck can legally stop, where the material can sit without blocking a neighbor or a sidewalk, and how far it then travels by wheelbarrow are all part of what the job really costs. On the tightest streets, material has to come in staged deliveries instead of all at once, and that is a decision worth making before a layout is priced.
The canopy is the other half of it. Mature live oaks arch over many of these streets and yards, which is most of the reason the neighborhood looks the way it does. It also means overhead clearance for a loaded truck is a real question, and root zones under the work area are another. Protected trees are worth identifying before the footprint is fixed, since excavating through a major root zone damages a tree in ways that only show up years later. Tree and permitting questions go to St. Johns County Growth Management.

Questions about paver patios in Sawgrass
There is no flat square-foot price. Here the variables that move it most are access: how close a delivery truck can get, how far material has to be carried by hand, and what the community allows in terms of hours and equipment. Size, material and shaping the excavation around established oaks do the rest. Helm walks the property and gives a written, site-specific price before work is scheduled.
Usually, yes. Gated communities commonly require vendors to be authorized in advance, and some set hours for deliveries and heavy equipment. The rules vary by association and get revised, so send us your current covenants and community rules before the quote so the proposal matches. Confirming access before a delivery is booked is what keeps the schedule honest.
Assume yes for exterior work, including hardscape. Requirements vary between the associations here and they get revised, so send us your current covenants before the quote so the proposal matches what your board asks for. Approval should be in hand before work is scheduled, because review runs on its own clock rather than on the build schedule.
That gets settled before the job starts. Pallets of pavers and loose base rock need somewhere to sit where they do not block a neighbor, a sidewalk or a fire lane, and the distance from that spot to the work area decides how much of the build happens by wheelbarrow. On the tightest streets, material is delivered in stages instead of all at once.
Usually, and it is normally the better answer than removal. The shape of the patio can follow the root zone instead of cutting through it, and protected trees are worth identifying before the footprint is fixed. Excavating through major roots damages a tree in ways that appear years later, so confirm the status of your specific tree with the county before planning around it.
About three to seven working days on site for most residential patios, with excavation and base preparation taking the largest share. Behind a gate, add time for access and delivery arrangements, and add days where material has to be carried rather than driven to the work area. Association review happens before all of it and runs separately. You get a schedule with your proposal.
Concrete pavers and travertine both perform well. Travertine stays cooler underfoot in the sun, and concrete pavers offer more color and pattern range at a lower cost per square foot. The bigger point here is shade: under heavy oak canopy a color reads much darker and greener than it does on a sample board in the sun, so look at samples on your own lot.
Mostly sweeping. Oak canopy drops leaves, acorns and pollen through the year, and ground that stays shaded dries slowly, so expect to clear litter more often than an open lot needs and to rinse organic staining occasionally. Joint sand needs topping up every few years as it settles. If a section settles, those units lift, the base underneath is corrected and the same pavers are reset.
